On Friday, 10 July 2026, Andrija Suvaljko, now an MD, defended his thesis entitled “The Effect of a Structured Lifestyle Programme on Body Weight in Adults with Obesity”. His supervisor was Associate Professor Tatjana Bačun, MD.

The thesis examined the effects of the POST programme (Osijek Weight Reduction Programme), delivered in person, on participants' body weight and waist and hip circumference.

This work is an example of linking a practical lifestyle programme with medical student research within medical education. We want to highlight examples like this and connect students, supervisors and health professionals working on similar topics.

We thank the University of Osijek Faculty of Medicine for supporting research on this topic, Professor Bačun for her supervision, and especially our young colleague Andrija for his work and interest in lifestyle medicine. We hope this example encourages further research and contributes to the inclusion of lifestyle medicine topics in the education of future health professionals.
