SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth)
Speakers: Agata Ladić and Irena Karas
Webinar 2026 · 01:31:47 · Audio: Croatian
Agata Ladić and Irena Karas consider SIBO from gastroenterological and nutritional perspectives: overlap with IBS, breath testing, investigation of underlying causes, and the possibilities and limitations of a low-FODMAP diet. The discussion includes recurrence, probiotics, herbal products and prokinetics.
About the recording
The webinar brings together gastroenterological and nutritional approaches to small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. Agata Ladić reviews risk factors, symptom overlap with IBS, the possibilities and limitations of diagnostic tests, and questions about antibiotic treatment and recurring symptoms. She emphasises investigating underlying causes and each patient’s circumstances.
Irena Karas considers nutrient deficiencies, low-FODMAP eating, restriction and food reintroduction, and longer-term dietary adaptation. She specifically discusses the limited evidence for this approach in people with SIBO.
Maks Luka Šenjug moderates the webinar, while Nikolina Polić leads the closing questions on clinical practice, probiotics, herbal products and prokinetics.

Source note: The study shown examined an elemental diet in people with IBS and an abnormal lactulose breath test. Normalization of the test in this study is not evidence of a universally effective treatment for SIBO.
